Best Bets Feb. 28/March 1: What to watch/where to go
MONDAY, FEB. 28
CONCACAF U-17 CHAMPIONSHIP
United States vs. Canada
ESPN Deportes, 10 a.m.
The winner of this year's regional title (yes, we know who it is -- this is delayed from Sunday -- and no, we won't spoil things) will always take something of an asterisk with them -- Mexico didn't compete; it already was in (as host of) the FIFA U-17 World Cup -- but both of these sides have been solid, and the Canadians haven't conceded a goal. Local boys Esteban Rodriguez, Marco Rodriguez and Jack McBean contribute for the Yanks.
ITALIAN SERIE A
Napoli at AC Milan
Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Deportes, 11:30 a.m.
This showdown between No. 1 Milan (16-3-7) and No. 3 Napoli (16-6-4) could determine the Scudetto winner, at least if Milan prevails. And why shouldn't it turn out so? The Rossineri haven't lost a league game since mid-December, and there's been some whispers -- not here, mind you -- that Zlatan Ibrahimovic belongs in the world's-best-player conversation. Replays: FSC, 5 p.m.; Fox Deportes, 7 p.m.
- ON LOCAL FIELDS
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS PLAYOFFS
West Adams Prep at Banning
Banning High School (Wilmington), 3 p.m.
Newcomer West Adams has shaken up the L.A. City Section soccer establishment, upsetting traditional powers Belmont, No. 1 San Fernando and Bell to reach the semifinals. Oscar Sandoval has been involved in 23 of the Panthers' 43 goals. Alejandro Diaz is the chief provider for fourth-seeded Banning, which has outscored playoff foes, 18-2.
Fremont at South East (South Gate), 3 p.m.
Elizabeth LC at Academia Avance (Highland Park), 3 p.m.
Foshay LC at Annenberg (Los Angeles), 3 p.m.
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Manchester United at Chelsea
Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Deportes, noon
Sir Alex Ferguson has declared the EPL a two-team race, between his first-place side at Man United (17-1-9) and Arsenal (17-5-5), which sits four points back with 11 games to go. Chelsea, which won the league/F.A. Cup double last year, is well out of the title race -- 15 points back -- and in danger of missing next year's UEFA Champions League. United could be (should be!) missing Wayne Rooney, who faces a suspension for throwing an elbow Saturday. Replays: FSC, 5 p.m.; Fox Deportes, 7:30 p.m.
Spanish La Liga
Sporting Gijon at Sevilla, ESPN Deportes, 12:55 p.m.
CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Colorado Crew at Real Salt Lake
Fox Soccer Channel and Galavision, 7 p.m.
Last week's first leg, on the snow-sprinkled turf at Crew Stadium, was a testy affair with far more red cards (three, including RSL's Best XI defender Nat Borchers) than goals (none). The victor here -- or Columbus if it's a draw with goals -- heads to the semifinals. Replay: FSC, midnight.
Cruz Azul (Mexico) at Santos Laguna (Mexico), TeleFutura (KFTR/Channel 46), 5 p.m.
Peņarol (Uruguay) at Godoy Cruz (Argentina), Fox Deportes, 3 p.m.
Colo Colo (Chile) at Deportivo Tachira (Venzuela), Fox Deportes, 5:30 p.m.
- ON LOCAL FIELDS
Canada U-23 at Chivas USA
Home Depot Center, 11 a.m.
These preseason friendlies/scrimmages don't mean a thing, but Chivas coach Robin Fraser is going to be looking for a lot more energy after last week's dismal showing against D.C. United. The season starts in less than three weeks, and the Goats still have far to go before they'll be ready. We'll not know which field at HDC (likely No. 4) until an hour or two before game time.
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS PLAYOFFS
Corona del Mar at Paramount
Paramount High School (Paramount), 3 p.m.
The Pirates and visiting Sea Kings are both defending CIF Southern Section champs -- CdM moved from Division 4 to 3 this season -- and they both, too, won Southern California Regional titles, the closest thing in these parts to a state championship. One of them is headed to next weekend's title game.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS PLAYOFFS
Flintridge Sacred Heart at Esperanza
Esperanza High School (Anaheim), 3 p.m.
Two more defending state champs -- er, regional champs -- hook up out in eastern Anaheim in a CIF Southern Section Division 1 semifinal. Esperanza is the reigning titlist, but F.S.H. is still looking for its first sectional-final appearance -- the Tologs lost on PKs in the Division 2 semis last year.
