THURSDAY, MARCH 3

  • TELEVISION

SPANISH LA LIGA
Malaga at Real Madrid
ESPN Deportes, 12:55 p.m.

Here's a chance to see Cristiano Ronaldo and his mates destroy an overmatched foe. Real is destined to second place in Spain (but might win Europe), and Malaga is trying to escape the relegation zone.

COPA LIBERTADORES
Universidad Catolica (Chile) at Velez Sarsfield (Argentina)
Fox Deportes, 3 p.m.
The Chilean titlists opened Group 4 play in South America's club championship by giving up a last-minute penalty in a draw with countrymen Union Espaņola. Velez romped.
Also
Cruzeiro (Brazil) at Deportes Tolima (Colombia), Fox Deportes, 9 a.m.
Cerro Porteņo (Paraguay) at Santos (Brazil), Fox Deportes, 11 a.m.
Independiente (Argentina) at LDU Quito (Ecuador), Fox Deportes, 5:30 p.m.
Union Espaņola (Chile) at FC Caracas (Venezuela), Fox Deportes, 7:30 p.m.

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Saprissa (Costa Rica) at Olimpia (Honduras)
Galavision, 5 p.m.
Saprissa looks to hold after winning its home leg, 1-0, on Armando Alonso's first-half goal. The victor gets a semifinal date with Real Salt Lake.

FRIDAY, MARCH 4
  • TELEVISION

ITALIAN SERIE A
AS Roma at Lecce
Fox Soccer Plus and Fox Deportes, 11:40 a.m.

A four-game skid, which led to violent protests and manager Claudio Ranieri's abrupt resignation, took AS Roma out of the Serie A race and probably cost them a quarterfinal berth in the UEFA Champions League. A European berth of some sort is still within reach, but La Maggica need to win games like this one to get there. quit Replay: 5 p.m.

MEXICAN PRIMERA DIVISION
Pachuca at Estudiantes Tecos
Galavision, 6:10 p.m.
Two basement-dwellers -- Pachuca in Group 2, Tecos overall -- wage battle, and we won't call it meaningless because the race in Group 2 is so tight, that the Tuzos could claim a playoff berth with a few wins. Including here.

AUSTRALIAN A-LEAGUE
Gold Coast United at Central Coast Mariners
Fox Soccer Channel, midnight
They call this the “preliminary final” in Oz, but it's really just a semifinal, with the winner moving on to meet regular-season champion Brisbane Roar in the “grand final.”
