Best Bets March 10/11: What to watch/where to go

THURSDAY, MARCH 10

  • TELEVISION

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE

Liverpool (England) at Sporting Braga (Portugal)

GolTV, 10 a.m.

Liverpool storms into the round of 16 in Europe's No. 2 club championship after beating mighty Manchester United on Dirk Kuyt's hat trick. The Reds are unbeaten (7-0-5) in a dozen Europa League outings.

Also

Spartak Moscow (Russia) at Ajax Amsterdam (Netherlands), GolTV, noon and midnight

Villarreal (Spain) at Bayer Leverkusen (Germany), GolTV, 2 p.m.

COPA LIBERTADORES

Godoy Cruz (Argentina) at Independiente (Argentina)

Fox Deportes, 4:30 p.m.

Everything's even in Group 8 of South America's club championship after two games, aside from a little goal difference. Our guess is one of the Argentine rivals advance with Ecuador's LDU Quito, so this result could be key.

Also

Junior (Colombia) at Oriente Petrolero (Bolivia), Fox Deportes, 6 a.m.

Caracas FC (Venezuela) at Universidad Catolica (Chile), Fox Deportes, 10 a.m.

Velez Sarsfield (Argentina) at Union Española (Chile), Fox Deportes, 2 p.m.

Deportivo Tachira (Venzuela) at Cerro Porteño (Paraguay), Fox Deportes, 11 p.m.

Banning High School (Wilmington), 5 p.m.

Bullard (Fresno) at San Clemente

San Clemente High School, 6:30 p.m.

Frannie Coxe netted her 13th and 14th goals of the season in the Tritons' first-round victory in the Southern California Regionals. Now the Southern Section powerhouse takes on the Central Section's best, with a spot in Saturday's Division I final on the line.

Also

St. Margaret's (San Juan Capistrano) at Flintridge Sacred Heart (La Cañada Flintridge), 4 p.m.

FRIDAY, MARCH 11

  • TELEVISION

ITALIAN SERIE A

Inter Milan at Brescia

Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Deportes, 11:30 a.m.

Cameroonian star Samuel Eto'o and Internazionale have won four straight Serie A games to close within five points of first-place AC Milan. How much fight can 19th-place Brescia put up? Replay: FSC, 8 p.m.

MEXICAN PRIMERA DIVISION

Monterrey at Necaxa

Azteca America (KAZA/Channel 54) and Fox Deportes, 6:10 p.m.

Necaxa, desperately seeking to stave off relegation to the second-tier Liga de Ascenso, has been one of Mexico's hottest clubs since Sergio Bueno took charge at the end of January, going 3-0-2 and shutting out four of five foes. Monterrey, the fall champion, has been good enough in spurts to climb into the top eight, in position for a postseason berth.

HIGH SCHOOL BOYS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Oak Hills (Hesperia) vs. Santa Barbara

Warren High School (Downey), 7:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs and Dons failed to win CIF Southern Section titles -- Oak Hills lost to Pico Rivera's El Rancho in the Division 4 final; Santa Barbara fell to San Clemente in the Division 1 game -- but one of them will claim the Southern California Regional Division II championship.

Girls

Coronado vs. La Jolla, Warren High School (Downey), 5 p.m.
