COLLEGE: Jacobo paces Northridge

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cynthia Jacobo was Goalkeeper of the Year in the USL W-League last summer, anchoring the defense for the Santa Clarita Blue Heat, who might have soared to the championship had injuries not decimated their lineup. She's following up with a superb junior season at Cal State Northridge, and her exceptional play led the surprising Matadors -- Big West Conference co-leaders with UC Irvine -- to 1-0 victories over Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton.

RANKINGS: The L.A. area's big three soccer schools? According to the rankings, it's UCLA (duh!), Azusa Pacific (duh!) and Irvine's Concordia (hmmm). All three schools are ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America men's and women's polls -- the Bruins in NCAA Division I, of course, and APU and Concordia in the NAIA.
