CHIVAS USA: Bolaņos loan finalized

By Scott French

Chivas USA's midfield depth, already the best in Major League Soccer, grew with Wednesday's acquisition of Ecuadoran midfielder Miller Bolaņos on loan from LDU Quito.

The Goats announced the arrival and reported that they hold an option, presumably to buy. LDU Quito in late December reported  Bolaņos was going to MLS.

Bolaņos, 21, can play in the middle or on the flank and is capable of scoring and creating goals.

“He is a versatile player that was sought out by other international clubs,” Chivas general manager Jose Domene said in a release. “He really wanted to play here, and we got it done. He will be a great addition to Chivas USA because he is a different type of player that is not afraid to take on people. Miller has a great shot and can play as a winger, attacking mid and second forward.”

Said head coach Robin Fraser: “Miller is an exciting young attacking player. He’s a good passer, good finisher, and good at running at people, definitely a special attacking talent and we certainly look forward to having him.”

Bolaņos is the second Ecuadoran addition to the team, joining midfielder Oswaldo Minda, 28, who was signed last month from Deportivo Quito. The Goats declined their option on Ecuadoran forward Victor Estupiņan's loan deal from LDU Quito.

Bolaņos gives the Goats 10 potential starting midfielders, joining Minda, Nick LaBrocca, Marcos Mondaini, Laurent Courtois, Blair Gavin, Michael Lahoud, Ryan Smith, Jorge Villafaņa and Ben Zemanski. Lahoud, Villafaņa and Zemanski have backline experience but are more comfortable in midfield.
