COLLEGE: Assistant takes charge at LMU

By Scott French

Michelle Myers, who has served as an assistant coach for Loyola Marymount University's women's soccer program the past 16 years, has been promoted to head coach.

She takes over for Joe Mallia, who departed last week to join his former assistant (at Loyola, Md.) Brian Pensky's new staff at the University of Tennessee. Mallia was 50-34-11 in five seasons with the Lions.

Myers, who has been pivotal in LMU's recruiting efforts, is the fifth head coach in program history. She played collegiately at Santa Clara in the mid-1980s and was head coach at Mater Dei High School and Rancho Santiago College (now, as before, Santa Ana College) before joining the LMU staff in 1996. She was an assistant to Gregg Murphy before Mallia took charge in 2007.
