WPS: Chino Hills' Bardsley injured in All-Star practice

By Scott French

Chino Hills' Karen Bardsley is out of Women's Professional Soccer's All-Star Game, and on the sidelines for at least six weeks, after sustaining a broken collarbone in training Tuesday.

Bardsley, an England national-teamer who starred at Ayala High School and Cal State Fullerton, was set to start Wednesday's WPS All-Star Game for the Marta XI in Kennesaw, Ga., but she was injured about midway through Tuesday's session.

"It was just a cross, and she came out, and she actually ran into the forward and fell onto her shoulder, and it was just like, 'Oh my gosh,' ” FC Gold Pride coach Albertin Montoya, who's in charge Marta, told media afterward. “And even the forward, (Chicago's Brazilian) Cristiane, she stopped. But you can get hurt walking across the street or coming out here -- it wasn't like anyone was going in reckless. It was just a cross, she came out and ran into the player.”

Bardsley, an All-American at Fullerton, could miss the remainder of the season for Sky Blue FC, the reigning champion. She has been the top goalkeeper in WPS this season, leading the league with five shutouts and a 0.90 goals-against average.

Gold Pride goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart, in Kennesaw for her club's game Saturday against the Atlanta Beat, will replace Barhart in the All-Star Game.
