Chivas loans Chukwudi Chijindu to L.A. Blues

By Scott French

Chivas USA forward Chukwudi Chijindu is headed to USL Pro side L.A. Blues on loan, a deal that's expected to be announced Wednesday.

Chijindu (Fontana/Damien HS), 25, has played in 23 games his first two seasons in MLS, with six starts, two goals and an assist. The Goats loaned him last August to second-tier Miami FC for the remainder of the 2010 season, and he's far down the depth chart at forward again, so sending him to the Blues will provide game time he can't get with Chivas USA.

L.A. Blues, debuting in the third-tier USL Pro this season, begin their campaign April 15 at Sevilla FC Puerto Rico. The home opener is May 2 at Cal State Fullerton against Barracuda FC of Antigua.

Blues general manager Alyse LaHue revealed the loan deal Tuesday, and a Chivas USA official confirmed it.

The Blues also plan to announce Wednesday the acquisition of former UCLA star Leonard Griffin (Palmdale/Littlerock HS), 28, a defender who has been with three MLS clubs (Chicago, Columbus and Galaxy) and has played for USL Premier Development sides Orange County Blue Star and Hollywood United. Griffin played for second-tier Austin Aztex last season.
