GALAXY: DeLaGarza concussion? Unclear

By Scott French

The Galaxy medical staff has yet to determine whether defender A.J. DeLaGarza suffered a concussion when kicked in the head during Monday night's scoreless draw against Seattle at Home Depot Center, and the club has listed him as questionable for Saturday's home game against Chicago.

DeLaGarza took a blow to the head from Sounders forward Fredy Montero in the 13th minute of Monday's match and was stretchered off the field after collapsing eight minutes later. Teammates afterward talked of a "dizzy" DeLaGarza and speculated he'd miss some time with what appeared to be an obvious concussion.

But the third-year backliner is listed on the injury report with "head/face trauma," and a Galaxy spokesman said Wednesday he "is continuing to undergo tests to see if it is a concussion or not."

DeLaGarza watched from the bench as the Galaxy played an MLS Reserve League match Tuesday against Seattle on the club's training field, and he came in to see the training staff Wednesday, which was a day off for the team.

A post on his Twitter account Tuesday night read: "Thanks for all the concern I'm doing fine today!!"

DeLaGarza, who last month signed a mulityear extension, is the Galaxy's most versatile defender. He has made 57 starts in a little more than 2 seasons while playing on both flanks and in impressive, extended fill-in roles in the middle last season and this year.

DeLaGarza's partner in the back, former University of Maryland teammate and roommate Omar Gonzalez, also is questionable for Saturday's game because of a hip pointer.
