Gold Cup redux? USA-Mexico II in Philly

By Scott French

Mexico rallied from a two-goal deficit in an emphatic 4-2 triumph over the U.S. in last month's CONCACAF Gold Cup final, a classic encounter, no matter which side you favor.

A rematch of sorts -- nothing at stake this time -- has been set for Aug. 10 in Philadelphia, U.S. Soccer announced Friday. The match, which will kick off at 6 p.m. PT, will be televised by ESPN2 and Univision (KMEX/Channel 34).

Mexico posted its first win against a first-choice U.S. lineup outside Mexico City since 1999 in the June 25 showdown, which drew 93,420 mostly green-clad spectators to the Rose Bowl. Goals in the first 23 minutes by Michael Bradley and Landon Donovan gave the Yanks the advantage, but masterful Giovani Dos Santos orchestrated Mexico's dominance the rest of the way, capping the victory with a tremendous chip to the upper-left corner.
