Heidi Farran's goal in the 89th minute sent Cal State Northridge to a 1-0 upset of No. 22 Long Beach State, with the Matadors surging atop the Big West Conference women's soccer standings.
Farran (San Pedro/San Pedro HS) fired home with 97 seconds remaining in regulation after Katie Russ (Canyon Country/Canyon HS) headed along a throw-in from Chloe McDaniel (Palmdale/Quartz Hill HS).
Long Beach State (10-4-1) had won six in a row and led the Big West with a 3-0 mark, but the loss drops the 49ers one point behind the Matadors (5-7-2) and UC Irvine, which are 3-1-1. Long Beach visits Irvine on Sunday.
Northridge has won three of its last four games.

Elizabeth Eddy (Newport Beach/Newport Harbor HS) tallied in the fifth minute, and USC ended an eight-game losing streak and claimed its first Pacific 12 Conference victory in a 1-0 encounter at Washington. The Women of Troy (4-11-0), who are 1-5 in the Pac-12, benefited from solid defense backed up by freshman goalkeeper Carley Pennington (Rancho Cucamonga/St. Lucy's Priory HS), who got the shutout in her college debut.
No. 6 UCLA (10-1-3) dictated play and ran up a 29-8 advantage in shots but couldn't find the net, and the scoreless draw at Washington State extended the Bruins' winless streak to three games. The Cougars (10-4-2) moved ahead of UCLA in the Pac-12 standings at 4-1-1. The Bruins are 3-1-2.
Cami Privett and UCLA transfer Natalia Ledezma (La Mirada/La Mirada HS) assisted each other's second-half goals to carry UC Irvine (10-3-2) to a 2-1 win at Cal State Fullerton (6-7-2).
Darien Pyka (Anaheim/Canyon HS) scored just before halftime, Brianne Medved just after the break, and Loyola Marymount (7-5-1) picked up its first West Coast Conference victory, a 2-1 triumph at St. Mary's.
Andrea Morales scored four minutes into overtime to lift UC Riverside (7-6-0) to a 2-1 Big West victory Thursday over Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
Gabbi Seagall (Irvine/Tarbut V'Torah HS) tallied four minutes into overtime, and Cal State L.A., No. 20 in the NCAA Division II rankings, extended its unbeaten streak to nine games with a 1-0 triumph at No. 6 UC San Diego (8-1-4). UCSD leads the Golden Eagles by one point in the California Collegiate Athletic Association's South Division standings.
Cal Poly Pomona (7-3-3) surrendered two goals in the final 5½ minutes and dropped a 2-1 CCAA decision to visiting Cal State Stanislaus. Karli Nestler netted the winner with 34 seconds to go in regulation.
Carissa Kutkowski scored early, Casey Hirsch (Yorba Linda/Esperanza HS) tallied late, and Cal State San Bernardino (7-5-1) claimed a 2-0 CCAA win over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-6-1).
MEN: LMU tops Santa Clara in OT
John McFarlin's goal 6½ minutes into overtime lifted Loyola Marymount to a 1-0 victory over visiting Santa Clara, giving the Lions back-to-back West Coast Conference victories after a seven-game losing streak.
McFarlin, a freshman from Santa Rosa, headed home a cross from Tyler Krumpe (Torrance/West Torrance HS) after a through ball from Artur Jozkowicz (Santa Monica/Santa Monica HS).
LMU (4-9-0) and Santa Clara (6-4-3), both 2-3 in the WCC, played more than a half down a man. Lions defender Craig Nitti (Calabasas/Crespi Carmelite HS) and Santa Clara's Erik Hurtado were red-carded in the final minute of the first half. There were 35 fouls called, and a half-dozen players were cautioned.

No. 13 UC Santa Barbara (8-4-1) fell to 2-3 in Big West play as Patrick Sigler's penalty kick with 26 seconds remaining in regulation carried Cal Poly to a 2-1 win in front of 11,075 fans in San Luis Obispo. Sam Garza gave the Gauchos an early lead, but Cameron Walters' 79th-minute header pulled the Mustangs (6-5-2) even. Sigler scored after a sprinting Kyle Montgomery was upended by Peter Schmetz, a call that led to two red cards.
German freshman Timo Schwar scored in the fifth minute and set up Finnish junior Antti Arvola in the 14th to start No. 13 Cal State L.A. (8-1-4) toward a 4-2 CCAA win at UC San Diego.
Luis Gonzalez (Long Beach/Millikan HS and Cerritos College) netted his 12th goal of the year and Jonathan Enns and Ricardo Reyes (Hawthorne/Hawthorne HS and Cerritos College) contributed goals and assists as CCAA South Division leader Cal Poly Pomona (9-3-1) routed Cal State Stanislaus, 3-0.
Freshman Juan Quinonez (Inglewood/Amino Leadership HS) assisted the equalizer by Josh Walker (San Bernardino/San Gorgonio HS) equalizer, then netted the winner as Cal State Dominguez Hills (9-3-1) rallied from an early deficit for a 3-1 CCAA win at Cal State San Bernardino (5-8-0).
Mauricio Alfonso (Woodland Hills/Loyola HS) scored in the 64th to lift Chapman (8-3-1) to a 2-1 win at Wis.-Whitewater.
