UCLA's new era in men's basketball will begin with a shout out to the past.

The Bruins will open the 2012-13 season in the newly-renovated Pauley Pavilion Nov. 9 against Indiana State, the only other school at which UCLA legend John Wooden coached, the school announced Thursday.

The schedule also includes nonconference games against Texas at Reliant Stadium in Houston, against San Diego State in the Wooden Classic at the Honda Center and an appearance in the Legends Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y., featuring Georgetown, Indiana and Georgia.

The home non-conference schedule includes games against Missouri and Long Beach State, two teams that made the NCAA tournament last season. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal State Northridge, Prarie View A&M and Fresno State will also visit Pauley next season.

UCLA opens Pac-12 Conference play Jan. 3 at home against California. The Pac-12 tournament will be played March 13-16 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

“With a total of six non-conference teams on this year’s schedule that made the NCAA Tournament a year ago, I believe this is one of the most competitive schedules we have had in my tenure,” coach Ben Howland said in a statement. “I’m really looking forward to this season and very excited about the level of competition.”

The Bruins played their home games at the Sports Arena and Honda Center last season as Pauley received a $136-million makeover that includes a new concourse with displays showcasing UCLA’s Athletics history, new concessions stands and restrooms, all new seats and a a state-of-the-art scoreboard.

The Bruins are expected to have a top-10 team to re-open Pauley with incoming freshmen Shabazz Muhammad, Kyle Anderson, Tony Parker and Jordan Adams--the the nation's No. 1 recruiting class--joining returning starters Travis and David Wear and Tyler Lamb along with key reserves Joshua Smith and Norman Powell.
