Itinerary set for basketball trip to China

The UCLA men's basketball team will play three games during its upcoming trip to China, including one against the Shanghai Sharks, a professional team partially owned by former NBA star Yao Ming.

UCLA departs for China Aug. 22 and will be overseas for a week as part of the China-USA Sports Week. The Bruins will play Tsinghua University in Bejing on Aug. 25 then depart for Shanghai to face Shanghai Jiao Tong University on Aug. 27 and the Shanghai Sharks on Aug. 28.

During their stay, the Bruins will visit the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace as well as take part in two meet-and-greet events with fans.

Highlights of their itinerary are below (all times local unless noted):

Wednesday, Aug 22

1:40 a.m. UCLA travel party departs Los Angeles International Airport for Beijing

Thursday, Aug. 23

6:00 p.m. Welcome dinner with Federation of University Sports of China, not open to the public.

Friday, Aug. 24

2-6 p.m. UCLA travel party sightseeing, The Great Wall of China.

Notes: UCLA’s group will visit the Badaling section of the Great Wall. UCLA fans and alumni are encouraged to contact their hotel for information about visiting this section of the Great Wall. Tickets can be purchased on site for 45 Yuan (~$7). Access to visit with UCLA’s travel party is not guaranteed.

7-9 p.m. UCLA’s meet and greet, Beijing Guangzhou Hotel

Note: UCLA fans interested in attending the game against Tsinghua University must attend Friday evening’s meet and greet event to obtain tickets, which are in extremely limited supply.

Saturday, Aug. 25

6-7:20 p.m. Opening Ceremony for USA-China University Sports Week, Tsinghua University Sports Center

7:30 p.m. UCLA vs. Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University Sports Center (Beijing)

Sunday, Aug. 26

11 a.m. UCLA departs Beijing Capital International Airport for Shanghai

5:30-7 p.m. UCLA’s meet and greet in Shanghai, Location: Shanghai Pine City Hotel

Monday, Aug. 27

6 p.m. Opening Ceremony, The New Gymnasium (Shanghai Jiao Tong University Sports Arena)

7 p.m. UCLA vs. Shanghai Jiao Tong University, The New Gymnasium (Shanghai Jiao Tong University Sports Arena).

Notes: UCLA fans interested in attending the games against either Shanghai Jiao Tong University (8/27) or the Shanghai Sharks (8/28) must attend the team’s meet and greet event at Shanghai Pine City Hotel on Sunday, Aug. 26. Tuesday, Aug. 28

7-8 p.m. Pregame show, at arena at Yuanshen Sports Center

Notes: The Yuanshen Sports Center is located in the Pudong Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone, which can be reached on the Metro (Yuanshen Stadium station).

8 p.m. UCLA vs. Shanghai Sharks at Yuanshen Sports Center.

Notes: UCLA fans interested in attending the game bewteen UCLA and the Shanghai Sharks must attend the team’s meet and greet event at Shanghai Pine City Hotel on Sunday, Aug. 26.

Wednesday, Aug. 29

6 p.m. (PT) UCLA arrives at Los Angeles International Airport.
