UCLA's national title defense in softball ended Sunday when the Bruins lost to Florida, 11-3, in an elimination game for both teams at Gainesville, Fla.

The Gators (50-10), seeded fourth nationally, scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning, added two in the fourth to take an 11-0 lead. B.B. Bates had a two-run single to highlight a three-run fifth inning rally for unseeded UCLA, but the game was called after four and a half innings because of the eight-run rule, ending UCLA's season. The Bruins finish 36-19 record.

UCLA, which won the College World Series last season, defeated Florida earlier on Sunday, scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 victory that set up the regional championship game. Outfielder Amy Crawford delivered a game-winning single in that game to set up the rematch with a trip to the Super Regionals on the line.

Florida, however, scored early and often in that game and advanced to face Oregon next week.
