White remains on track to start after heart procedure
By Peter Yoon
LOS ANGELES -- UCLA offensive lineman Torian White did only light individual work in practice Tuesday, but remains on track in his recovery from a minor heart procedure and is expected to start Saturday at Arizona State, coach Jim Mora said Tuesday.
White, a freshman who has started every game at left tackle this season, had electrical impulses sent into his heart last Tuesday to correct a randomly rapid heartbeat. Recovery was expected to take a week.
"He’ll be fine," Mora said. "He should be out here full go tomorrow and he should start playing and be fine. He worked on the bike, he worked on the side, he had his pads on, he had his helmet on. We just kept him out of contact today but he should be good to go."
Mora said holding White out of contact has to do with letting the wound heal rather than any after effects of the surgery.
"It’s not the fact that he’s weak or anything like that that he couldn’t practice, it’s just the fact that he’s still recovering," Mora said.
