Baseball looks to get well on the road

By Blair Angulo

The UCLA baseball team continues its five-game road swing tonight in Washington -- not only looking for wins, but for a little momentum in conference play after dropping all three contests to Arizona State last weekend.

UCLA (31-10, 7-8 Pac-10) currently sits in seventh place even though it is the No. 12-ranked team in the nation (only ASU is ranked higher amongst Pac-10 teams). The Bruins are 13-2 in games away from Jackie Robinson Stadium.

"I feel like we've handled the situation pretty well this year," junior shortstop Niko Gallego said. "We play like we're at home, try to take the crowd out of it, take all the other elements out of it and just play baseball."

The Huskies (25-19, 8-7) sound ready, this according to the preview from The Daily.

“I think everybody gets excited for those games, because you’ve got a high-ranked team coming in,” pitcher Andrew Kittredge said. “We went down to Arizona State and we only won one of the games, but we proved to ourselves that we can compete with those types of teams. And we’re at that big point in our season, where if we can win some of these games this weekend, that will be huge for us going into the final stretch of the Pac-10.”

This weekend's probable pitching matchups:

UCLA – Gerrit Cole, RHP, So. (6-2, 2.86)
Washington – Geoff Brown, LHP, Jr. (1-3, 4.96)
