Polls: Florida State gains ground on Oregon

By Ted Miller

Oregon remained No. 2 in both polls behind Alabama, though No. 3 Florida State gained ground on the Ducks in both the AP and USA Today polls.

Oregon is now only 39 points ahead of the Seminoles in the coaches' poll, which counts in the BCS standings, down from 64 points a week ago. The Ducks received five first-place votes and FSU got three after it throttled Miami on Saturday.

The Ducks are only nine points ahead of FSU in the AP poll and received fewer No. 1 votes -- six vs. two -- but that poll doesn't count in the BCS standings.

It's likely Florida State will move ahead of Oregon in the BCS standings this evening. But it's also likely the Ducks again will move ahead of the Seminoles if they win at Stanford on Thursday. The Cardinal, ranked No. 6 in both polls, are the highest ranked one-loss team. The Ducks schedule thereafter is substantially better than FSU's, including a Pac-12 title game matchup with what should be a ranked team.

UCLA is No. 18 in the coaches' poll and No. 16 with the AP. Arizona State is 23rd in the AP poll and 24th with the coaches.

Oregon State, USC and Arizona each received votes in the coaches' poll.
