By Blair Angulo
As part of a weekly feature, we'll offer a note, a link and a video every Friday. Let's get to it.
UCLA ace pitcher Gerrit Cole will start for the U.S. collegiate national team in its gold medal game against Cuba on Saturday, Aug. 7. First pitch is scheduled for 2 a.m. Los Angeles time, 6 p.m. at Tokyo's Meiji Jingu Stadium.
Cole's big right arm promises to draw a large gathering wherever the Bruins play next season. The former first-round selection becomes draft eligible next June.
The UCLA men's soccer team enters the 2010 campaign as the No. 8 squad in the land, according to College Soccer News' preseason poll.
Coach Jorge Salcedo's Bruins are coming off an impressive, yet disheartening, 12-4-4 season. UCLA, which won the Pac-10 title and reached the NCAA quarterfinals last winter, opens the new season on Sept. 3 against Notre Dame. Only four starters from last year's team return.
