Halftime: UCLA 24, Oregon State 18

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- There was nothing pretty about the first half at Gill Coliseum.

But luckily for UCLA, basketball is no beauty pageant.

The Bruins lead Oregon State 24-18 at the half behind six points each from Michael Roll and Reeves Nelson.

The teams have combined for 20 turnovers, with UCLA committing 12. Oregon State's zone defense is clearly more suffocating that a normal scheme.

A bright spot for the Bruins has been their 53-percent shooting (eight for 15) -- but the clear problem has been getting shots.

Oregon State is eight for 21 from the field and has grabbed only eight rebounds. Beavers center Roeland Schaftenaar leads all scorers with seven points.
