Reeves Nelson to play in basketball opener
By Peter Yoon
Forward Reeves Nelson completed a full practice Thursday and has been cleared to play in UCLA's season opening basketball game Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Cal State Northridge.
Nelson, the starting power forward, strained his hip flexor during the team's first exhibition game last Thursday against Westmont and sat out Tuesday's exhibition game against Cal State Los Angeles.
Backup shooting guard Matt Carlino was limited in practice Thursday after suffering a concussion in practice on Monday. His availability for Friday will be a game-time decision.
Point guard Lazeric Jones, the starter in the two exhibition games, required two stitches after taking an inadvertent elbow to his mouth during practice, but he will play on Friday.
