UCLA falls to Stanford in Pac-10 final
By Blair Angulo
UCLA coach Nikki Caldwell likes to refer to Jasmine Dixon, Markel Walker, Doreena Campbell and Darxia Morris as the team's four horsewomen. The quartet rode off into that sweet night on Saturday, defeating crosstown rival USC to advance to the Pac-10 Conference tournament final against top-seeded Stanford.
But in today's championship game at the Galen Center, Dixon seemed to be the only one to saddle up for UCLA, scoring a game-high 20 points in a 70-46 loss to the Cardinal.
Walker, meanwhile, had just nine. Campbell and Morris combined for six points and seven turnovers. Walker, Campbell and Morris were responsible for 39 of UCLA's 59 points in the victory over USC a day before.
Stanford countered with its highly potent trio of Jayne Appel, Kayla Pedersen and Nnemkadi Ogwumike. The three combined for 43 points.
ESPN's latest projected bracket has UCLA as a No. 6 seed in the Dayton Regional, playing No. 11 James Madison in Cincinnati, Ohio. The women's selection show airs Monday at 4 p.m. PT on ESPN.
