UCLA focused for big game against ASU
By Peter Yoon
UCLA has its final full practice of the week Thursday and coach Rick Neuheisel said he's pleased at the way the team has approached this week with a game against Arizona State coming up that could put UCLA in a tie for first in the Pac-12 South.
"I thought our focus was right," Neuheisel said. "I thought guys understand the magnitude of the game, understand the magnitude of the opponent and I think are poised to play well. Certainly a lot of work to do between now and kickoff, but I like our situation as it sits currently."
Neuheisel and the coaching staff have been preaching focus this week, urging players to forget about the consequences of the game and worry only about playing well. They are trying to win consecutive games for the first time Since Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 of last year against Texas and Washington State.
Neuheisel said he felt as if the team gave him the type of focus he wanted.
"I feel like we’re in good position that way but there’s still a lot of time left and we can’t wander mentally," he said. "We’ve got to make sure we stay on task. There’s still lots to do to really hone in on a game plan and to make it subconscious rather than you are thinking out there which makes you a step slow and we can’t afford that this week."
