Make that two losses for UCLA’s basketball teams this weekend.
Unlike the men’s team Saturday, the women’s team held a lead before falling to USC, 70-63, at Galen Center on Sunday afternoon.
Senior guard Erica Tukiainen hit a 3-pointer with 10 minutes remaining to hand the Bruins a seven-point lead, but poor free-throw shooting doomed Nikki Caldwell’s squad at the end.
UCLA (10-6, 3-2 Pac-10) was only 9-of-20 from the line.
USC (10-6, 4-1), meanwhile, was 24-of-27 on free throws and closed the game on a 21-7 run.
Ashley Corral and Briana Gilbreath had 24 and 19, respectively, for the Women of Troy. Tukiainen led the Bruins with 14.
