Former SMU cornerback Robert Mojica, a prep teammate of Matt Barkley's at Santa Ana Mater Dei, has walked on to the USC roster this summer and could be a valuable reserve running back for the Trojans in 2012.

Mojica walked on to the SMU squad in 2008 and later earned a scholarship. He graduated in May and is now enrolled in the part-time MBA program at USC, with plans to earn the post-grad degree in two to three years.

"Here I think I'm going to be playing running back," Mojica said Friday after a Trojans' unofficial throwing session. "It seems like they need some more depth at the position, and I'm definitely gonna get in there on special teams and work hard and show what I got.

"Hopefully I can help out there."

Mojica gained 774 all-purpose yards as a high school senior running back in 2007, lining up behind Barkley in the Monarchs' offense. He also had some kicking experience at SMU.

Meanwhile, leaving USC this week is former walk-on quarterback Anthony Neyer, who confirmed he's transferring to local Pierce J.C. after two years at USC. Neyer joined the Trojans as a preferred walk-on in the fall of 2010 but never rose past the scholarship players on the quarterback depth chart.

He plans to spend the 2012 season at Pierce and transfer to a four-year school with two years of eligibility remaining next offseason.
