Boyd talks switch from defensive end to quarterback

Redshirt freshman James Boyd is making the first big position switch of spring. A defensive end for the past year, Boyd was informed by coach Lane Kiffin Monday that he would be switching to quarterback, where he played in high school at L.A. Jordan and led the state with 4,266 yards and 44 touchdown passes. Boyd suited up in a gold No. 15 jersey for practice Tuesday but didn't log any time in team drills, observing incumbent Matt Barkley and second-stringer Mitch Mustain.
