Halftime: USC 32, Oregon 23
By Pedro Moura
It's halftime at the Galen Center, and USC has managed to build a comfortable nine-point lead over visiting Oregon.
The Trojans are doing a lot of things right. They're shooting 50 percent from three, they're out-rebounding the Ducks 24-13 and outscoring them in the paint 14-6.
But coach Kevin O'Neill doesn't appear too happy. He called a timeout midway through the half after a defensive lapse gave Oregon an easy basket. The Ducks haven't shot the ball well though. Leading scorer Tajuan Porter has made only three of eight shots from the field, and Malcolm Armstead and Jeremy Jacob — who combined to score 37 points when Oregon beat USC last month — have scored only six points on three-for-10 shooting.
For USC, Dwight Lewis and Alex Stepheson each have eight points. Stepheson and forward Nikola Vucevic have combined for 17 rebounds on their own. One more rebound for Stepheson will give him his highest total since December.
One last note: the USC student section, in its penultimate appearance of the season, is 75 percent full at best.
