Signing the youngsters

When you have fewer than three years' experience in the major leagues, you are essentially at your club's whim. You might expect a modest bonus, say $25,000 or $50,000, for a good performance the year before. But your major-league salary likely will be somewhere just north of the major-league minimum.

The Angels renewed the contracts of 11 young players Tuesday. You can bet they're all making $400-something-thousand. They are: RHP Fernando Rodriguez, RHP Trevor Bell, RHP Sean O’Sullivan, RHP Bobby Mosebach, RHP Anthony Ortega, OF Chris Pettit, OF Terry Evans, C Ryan Budde, C Bobby Wilson, and INF Mark Trumbo.
