Stern taking pass on All-Star Weekend
By Marc Stein
If you're a fan of David Stern news conferences, you're advised to make sure you get yourself in front of a TV -- or a mobile device that streams NBA TV -- at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday.
That's when Stern and incoming successor Adam Silver will meet the media in London before the Brooklyn Nets play the Atlanta Hawks at the splendid O2 Arena.
It'll be Stern's last formal news conference as NBA commissioner before his Feb. 1 exit from the post after a 30-year run ... and maybe the last time we see him at an interview podium for a long, long time.
In addressing the vow from Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban to get fined at least one more time before his longtime foil leaves office, Stern confirmed to ESPN.com that he'll indeed be skipping All-Star Weekend in New Orleans next month as the 71-year-old embarks on retirement.
"Adam will be center stage as he begins a career that will take the NBA to new heights," Stern said.
