West MVP of the Second Trimester

West MVP of the Second Trimester: Kevin Durant, Thunder
You're kidding, right?
Such has been the brilliance of Kevin Durant since the calendar flipped to 2014 that we can scarcely get in a word anywhere about the monster Februarys assembled by two more scorching-hot Western Conference power forwards: Kevin Love and Blake Griffin.
How brilliant? This month alone, Durant is averaging 33.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 7.4 assists. Which qualifies as a pretty monster February in its own right.
And if he gets through Friday's home date with Memphis with a line that gaudy, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, KD will become only the second player in league history to average 33-7-7 in this particular month.
Oscar Robertson was the last one to do it ... way back in 1964-65.
LeBron James' own recent surge has certainly narrowed the gap between the top two MVP contenders and has thus managed to make the race even more intriguing than it already was after Durant's initial eruption following the loss of Russell Westbrook, which unexpectedly vaulted him into the MVP lead.
Yet when we're purely looking at the West's contenders, as good as the likes of Love and Griffin have been lately, there just isn't much to discuss.
Kudos to us for getting all the way to an eighth paragraph.
