Spurs poised to call up Damion James
By Marc Stein
Former first-round pick Damion James has been trying to play his way back into the NBA all season.
The call finally came Wednesday, during the final week of the D-League regular season, from the hottest team in the world of all teams.
Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the San Antonio Spurs -- winners of 18 consecutive games entering Wednesday night's home date with Golden State -- are in the process of calling James up on a 10-day deal from the Texas Legends.
The Texas native has split this season between the Legends (D-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks) and the Bakersfield Jam. James was selected No. 24 overall in the 2010 draft by Atlanta and appeared in 34 games with the Nets in his first three seasons as a pro.
The 6-foot-7 swingman went to training camp with the Denver Nuggets in the fall but opted to return to the D-League when he didn't stick.
