Dolphins practice report: Ellerbe update

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins (3-2) continued their preparation for Sunday's game against the AFC East-rival Buffalo Bills (2-4).

Here are several notes and observations:

  • It was good news and bad news Wednesday for Miami starting linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (shoulder). The good news was Ellerbe dressed in full pads. The bad news is Ellerbe didn’t participate in team drills open to the media. Ellerbe was optimistic about his playing status earlier in the week, but it appears that decision will remain up in the air for a few more days.

  • Miami cornerback Dimitri Patterson practiced for the third straight day and remains optimistic. Patterson missed the past four games with a groin injury. He participated in 7-on-7 drills open to the media and appeared to be moving around fine. If Patterson plays, the Dolphins could use him in a limited fashion as a nickel corner.

  • There weren't any new players in practice Wednesday. The Dolphins opened a roster spot Tuesday evening by releasing defensive lineman Marvin Austin. Miami is expected to fill the roster spot soon. The most likely area to address is the offensive line.

ESPN.com's Dolphins page will have more reaction Wednesday from the locker room after practice.
