Power Rankings: No. 18 Miami Dolphins

December, 31, 2013
A weekly explanation of the Dolphins’ ESPN.com Power Rankings:

Preseason: 20 | Last week: 16 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002

The roller-coaster ride continued to the very end for the Miami Dolphins. They finished 8-8 after their second consecutive embarrassing loss, a 20-7 setback against the New York Jets. The defeat knocked Miami out of the playoffs for the fifth straight year.

ESPN.com's Power Rankings' panel put the Dolphins at No. 18 to finish the season. Miami was the definition of average: It played great some weeks and also suffered some bad losses.

The Dolphins lost their last two games by a combined score of 39-7. The floundering finish raises many questions about what changes need to be made for the Dolphins to get over the hump. Expect plenty of internal evaluations over the next couple of weeks by Miami to figure things out.
