Miami morning take: GM interviews Friday

1/8/2014

Here are the most interesting Miami Dolphins stories Thursday around the Web:

  • Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports the Dolphins will begin interviews for their general manager opening on Friday.

Morning take: Don’t expect the Dolphins to take long. Miami has more than 20 restricted and unrestricted free agents, and someone needs to be in place quickly to make these decisions.

  • Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post reports the Dolphins have no plans to fire head coach Joe Philbin.

Morning take: This was expected after Philbin fired his top assistant: offensive coordinator Mike Sherman. As I wrote two days ago, the Dolphins are copying the blueprint of the 2013 New York Jets.

  • The Finsiders take a look at the current state of the Dolphins’ roster.

Morning take: The cupboard isn't bare. Miami had four Pro Bowlers last year and plenty of good players. A smart general manager could come in right away and put Miami back in postseason contention.

  • Dave Hyde of the Sun Sentinel wonders if flawed thinking will continue with the Dolphins.

Morning take: The current model hasn’t worked for five consecutive years. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is shaking things up. But it won’t be a complete overhaul with Philbin still involved.
