Tennessee Titans vice president of personnel Lake Dawson released a statement Sunday explaining why he didn’t accept the general manager position of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

According to Dawson, Miami’s internal structure didn’t fit his ideal of a GM position.

"I felt Stephen [Ross] is a great owner, passionate and wants to win, but the details of the offer didn't align with my vision," Dawson said in a statement. "I turned it down because it wasn't an ideal fit for my family and me."

Dawson was the second candidate – along with Nick Caserio of the New England Patriots – to turn down Miami in the past 24 hours. Cleveland Browns assistant GM Ray Farmer also took his name out of consideration on Thursday. All three had reservations about the Dolphins' idea of what a GM is.

Miami’s internal structure has been a hot topic over the past several days. The Dolphins went down their list and hired Dennis Hickey on Sunday, who worked with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
