ESPN.com’s Miami Dolphins page continues to take a look at key free-agent signings through the eyes of the people who covered them.

Next up is a scouting report of new defensive tackle Earl Mitchell from ESPN.com Houston Texans reporter Tania Ganguli:
“A big part of why Earl Mitchell isn't still with the Texans is fit. He's a leaner than the Texans want for new defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel's system. Mitchell is quick for his size, and had good footwork while with the Texans. It's a good signing by the Dolphins.”

As Ganguli mentioned, Mitchell was no longer a fit in Houston. But Mitchell makes a lot of sense for the Dolphins and defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle. Miami wants to be more disruptive in the trenches.

Mitchell said during his introductory news conference in Miami that he believes he has more pass-rushing skills than he’s showed. Playing in a 4-3 defense will provide more chances for Mitchell to get to the quarterback.
