With the 2014 offseason officially in the books, it’s time to look ahead to training camp and games being played in the exhibition and regular season.
This week ESPN.com’s Dolphins blog is taking a look at Miami’s best bargains. Next up we have the Dolphins’ third-year quarterback:
Bargain player: QB Ryan Tannehill
2013 stats: 3,913 yards, 24 touchdowns, 17 interceptions
2014 salary: $1.542 million
Dolphins best bargain: The rookie wage scale comes in handy for teams that land high draft picks at important position. Although the jury is still out, Tannehill has started 32 consecutive games at the NFL’s most important position and has done well enough to keep his job. Tannehill is 15-17 as a starter and has a lot to prove in Year 3. But in an age when opposing starting quarterbacks are making $15-$20 million per season, the Dolphins must feel very fortunate financially to have one at less than $2 million this year. This allows Miami the flexibility to spend its resources on other positions.
