EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Despite the St. Louis Rams' interest in exploring the possibility of Brett Favre's returning to the NFL, the 44-year-old former quarterback continues to say he has no interest in returning after three years of retirement. And Vikings defensive end Jared Allen, who played the final two seasons of Favre's career with him in Minnesota, applauds him for it.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Rams called Favre's agent, Bus Cook, about the possibility of his stepping in for the injured Sam Bradford, but Favre told Sports Talk 570 Powered by ESPN in Washington there was no way he was going to return to the NFL. His name has come up on different occasions since he finally stepped into retirement after 2010, but the last time Favre decided to come back for one more season, Allen was getting on a plane to Hattiesburg, Miss., to convince him to return.

This time? Allen said if Favre were thinking about coming back, he'd hop on a plane for a different reason.

"I saw him this offseason," Allen said. "Dude’s in good shape. He could probably come back and still sling a few. If he comes back, I’m going to fly down there and tell him stay retired.

"Brett, if you’re listening, stay retired, man. He can’t come back again."

Cook has said Favre is in better shape than when he retired from the Vikings, thanks to an extensive biking and running regimen, and added he thinks Favre would still be "better than a lot of (the quarterbacks) out there today." The future Hall of Famer is volunteering as a coach at Oak Grove (Miss.) High School, which is the top-ranked team in the state.
