Around the Horns: Wilfs' worth to be public

9/10/2013

Welcome to Around the Horns, our daily look at what's happening on the Vikings beat:

MINNEAPOLIS -- Want to find out how much the Vikings' owners are worth? You might get your chance soon.

In a New Jersey court hearing on Monday, Judge Deanne Wilson said the Wilf family's net worth must be disclosed to the public as she calculates the damages they must pay in a 21-year-old lawsuit, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Wilson did, however, delay the release of the figures so the Wilfs could pursue an appeal against her ruling.

The plaintiffs in the case -- business partners whom Wilson ruled the Wilfs defrauded -- said the net worth figure is an important part of the case so it becomes clear the damages were more than a simple business cost. "It has to have a sting," said Alan Lebensfeld, lead attorney for the plaintiffs.

But Wilson hinted again on Monday that the Wilfs have plenty of money to cover whatever expenses -- like lawsuits or stadium contributions -- might come their way.

"The difference between the Wilfs’ net worth and anything I could award is so vast,” the judge said, according to the Star-Ledger.
