White talks Affliction, Ortiz on ESPN Radio

7/25/2009

Dana White appeared on ESPN Radio 1100 in Las Vegas on Friday with host Steve Cofield. You can guess what was discussed -- though White was evasive on specifics.

On the subject of Affliction closing its promotional hatches and returning as a UFC sponsor: "Affliction hasn't made any real announcement yet. … I've said this for a long time: They're good at making clothes, not [being in] the fight business. That's what we do. We'll see what happens. … There's going to be a lot of interesting things happening over the next few weeks."

On White's own -- and God help me for even typing this word -- "tweet" on Tito Ortiz re-signing with the UFC: "Tito and I have been talking … it's a possibility."

On enlisting Fedor Emelianenko: "My job is to put on the best fights with the best fighters … regardless of what I think of Fedor, where he sits in heavyweight division, it doesn't matter. … I want it because you [the fans] want it."

White added he would be BASE jumping off of the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas to honor a statement made to Yahoo's Kevin Iole that he would do something spectacularly ill-advised if UFC 100 reached 1.5 million buys. He did not appear to be joking. If his parachute fails to open, I imagine he would try to aim himself at Vadim Finkelstein.
