Far East Movement has Dodgers surprise
By Dave Wilson
Lifelong Dodgers fans Far East Movement are throwing out the first pitch at Friday's game.
Far East Movement loves the Dodgers. That's no secret. They've been shown on the video board at Dodger Stadium issuing the "Dodgers Code of Conduct." They've had the honor of announcing "It's time for Dodgers baseball!" on the public address system on Korean Heritage Night last year.
But Friday night they will hit a new milestone, throwing out the first pitch before the Dodgers' game against the Colorado Rockies.
Rapper Prohgress says the group's members, who grew up in downtown Los Angeles and had a No. 1 hit in October with "Like a G6," rank this pretty highly on their list.
"I mean, each of the things we've done has all been fun and awesome. Anything that has any links to the Dodgers is monumentous," he said. "But throwing out the first pitch has got to be right up there at the top."
Proh (real name: James Roh) says Kev Nish will be doing the actual honor, and that they're all hoping for the best.
"He's got more of an athletic background. ... I don't know how warm his throwing arm is," Proh said. "You watch all those first pitches -- as long as you just kind of lob it up there, you're good. We're not gonna have him try to throw a gasser in there or anything."
Proh said he's excited about the timing of the event, and the tear the team is on.
"Well, I mean we're all really excited that Magic [Johnson] is part of the Dodgers now. That's no disrespect to anyone that came beforehand," he said. "Plus Matt Kemp is killing it, and Clayton Kershaw -- those are true blue Dodgers that came up in the farm system. It's a great time to be a Dodgers fan."
He said the group is excited about meeting Kemp, and that they have a little surprise in store.
"We haven't actually met Matt yet. We're all huge fans. Just this streak he's going on, I haven't seen anything like that. It's inhuman. He's so good right now. He's totally on one," he said. "With our new album 'Dirty Bass' that's dropping, we're representing the golden era of hip-hop with that booty-shaking vibe. We're hooking up the team with something. We don't want to let the cat out of the bag yet, but hopefully they'll have fun with it."
"Dirty Bass" will be released June 5 with the first single, "Live My Life" featuring Justin Bieber, and Far East Movement will head out on tour on May 22 with LMFAO.
