When the Sacramento Kings secured Reno as their single-affiliation D-League team, their former partners, the Utah Jazz were bumped over to Bakersfield, where they now share the Jam with four other teams. At this point 16 NBA teams share three D-League affiliates, which puts them at an obvious competitive disadvantage behind teams that have their own D-League franchise. Per Bill Oram of the Salt Lake Tribune, "one D-League executive hopes within five years" each NBA team will have their own affiliate. Finances may be the key to how quickly that may come to fruition.
