SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame would like to force Matt Barkley to make plays to win this game.

So far, that's exactly what he's dong.

Barkley just completed three straight passes for 77 yards and a touchdown, with receivers running wide open.

The Irish cornerbacks have been wildly disappointing all year. Gary Gray got the start at cornerback opposite Darrin Walls -- and got called for a PI on the first play from scrimmage. He also got burned on that drive.

Notre Dame did get a first down on its first drive after needing three quarters to do so last year in L.A. Some new wrinkles included putting little-used receiver John Goodman in the Wildcat. He got the first Irish first down. Golden Tate also took a handoff from the backfield.

But if it's going to be that easy on offense for USC, Notre Dame has no chance.
