Ricky Dobbs will start for Navy in Saturday’s game against Notre Dame.
Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo told local media after Monday’s practice that he hopes Dobbs can get in game shape during this week’s practices.
“When you sit out two weeks, I don’t think you’re ever at full capacity,” Niumatalolo said. “We’ll try to get him into good shape and hopefully he’ll get a full week of practice.”
Dobbs, a junior, aggravated a cracked bone in his right knee against SMU on Oct. 17. He said he suffered the initial injury back in high school and never had it fixed. Dobbs likely will need surgery after the season.
Dobbs has missed the last two starts against Wake Forest and Temple. He did play in the final series against Temple in an attempt to lead his team back from a late 27-24 fourth-quarter deficit, but all three of his pass attempts fell incomplete.
Dobbs told the Annapolis Capital that his knee felt a little tight after Monday’s conditioning and that he’d need a full week of repetitions to get back his game speed and timing to execute the triple option.
