In what was most assuredly his last series of the game in the third quarter against Washington State, Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen ran into some bad luck.

He was tripped up ever so slightly by a Cougars defender and fell down, jamming his his injured toe in the process. Clausen said on Wednesday that he was just starting to feel right again after incurring the turf toe injury in Week 3 against Michigan State.

"My toe was feeling really good going into the Washington State game, and after that play it kind of set me back to a few weeks ago where I was hurting and dealing with the pain," he said. "But hopefully it'll get back to where it was before the Washington State game."

Clausen described the toe as "a little sore" but said he's tolerating the pain. His health becomes even more of an issue now that backup quarterback Dayne Crist is out for the season with a torn ACL. Senior Evan Sharpley, who split time with Clausen in 2007, would play if anything happened to the Irish starter this week against Navy.
