When you think Syracuse and UConn in football, shootout is probably not the first word that comes to mind.
But the first half has been pretty exciting, and it ended with the Huskies leading 28-17.
Early on, the kicking game -- and a strong wind -- played a major role. UConn scored quickly after Syracuse went three-and-out and mustered just a 13-yard punt into the wind. The Huskies tacked on another score on Mike Lang's 80-yard kickoff return touchdown. That's four straight games now that Connecticut has scored on a punt or kick return. Amazing,
Syracuse battled back in the second quarter, thanks to touchdown passes from Greg Paulus and Ryan Nassib. But after the Orange made it 21-17 with 1:06 left in the half, UConn drove the field for another touchdown in just a minute of play.
UConn has only 149 yards of offense but has put up 28 points. That's efficiency. The Huskies are 30 minutes away from bowl eligibility.
