There is nothing more Clemson running back C.J. Spiller could have possibly done.
His No. 28 jersey will be retired.
Spiller, as usual, kept it classy:

Al Messerschmidt/Getty ImagesClemson's C.J. Spiller has rushed for 1,145 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.- The ACC's player of the year owns or is tied for 29 Clemson records, four ACC records and two NCAA.
- He had 20 carries for a career-high 233 yards and four touchdowns rushing in the ACC championship game against Georgia Tech. He had 301 all-purpose running yards, his third 300-yard game of the year. Spiller is just one of just two players with three 300-yard games. No Clemson player had recorded a 300-yard game prior to this year.
- He has a school-record 20 touchdowns this season and 50 for his career to tie the Clemson record. He and Tim Tebow are only active FBS players with at least 50 touchdowns.
- He averaged an incredible 270 all-purpose yards per game in four games vs. top-15 teams this year.
- And, most importantly, he will graduate in three-and-a-half years on Dec. 17.
His No. 28 jersey will be retired.
Spiller, as usual, kept it classy:
“I certainly wanted to make it to New York for the Heisman presentation," he said in a prepared statement. "It would have been great for this football program and Clemson University in general. But, I have done the best I could in every game. I have no regrets.
“I want to especially thank the Clemson fans for their support. I know they came out in great numbers in the fan voting poll [Spiller finished second in that poll] and have been very supportive of me my entire career.
“I want to thank all my teammates, especially the offensive line.
“We have one game left. We have not won a bowl game since I have been at Clemson. The seniors want to go out with a win.”
With Spiller on the field, their chances automatically increase. It's just unfortunate the Heisman voters didn't recognize that.
