The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that East Carolina defensive coordinator Greg Hudson is expected to join Florida State as the new linebackers coach.
Hudson has been the defensive coordinator at East Carolina since 2005, and according to the paper is expected to join FSU's staff after the Gator Bowl on Jan. 1. The paper also is reporting, Hudson was in Tallahassee on Tuesday working on finalizing his agreement to come to Florida State.
Hudson was originally thought to be a replacement for defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews, but new head coach Jimbo Fisher went with Mark Stoops instead.
Hudson and Fisher coached at Cincinnati together in 1999. Hudson also has coached at Minnesota, Connecticut and the University of the Redlands in California.
East Carolina’s defense has excelled under Hudson. From 2006-08, East Carolina was stellar against the run, allowing an average of 140.9 yards per game. ECU also has excelled in turnovers forcing 31 in 2007 and 33 in 2008.
