The first senior all-star game of the new year is Saturday with the East-West Shrine game and 27 players from the nonautomatic qualifying schools are participating in the event.

The West team has the biggest non-AQ influence with 18 players, including 13 players from the Mountain West Conference. BYU quarterback Max Hall is one of three quarterbacks on the West side and the only non-AQ quarterback invited to the game. Similarly, BYU’s Dennis Pitta is the only non-AQ tight end in the game and Fresno State’s Robert Malone is the only non-AQ punter.

The military academies have three participants this season with Army wide receiver Ali Villanueva, Navy linebacker Ross Pospisil and Air Force safety Chris Thomas.

Middle Tennessee linebacker Chris McCoy is the lone representative from the Sun Belt Conference.

The East-West Shrine Game, which has been played every year since 1925, is held at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla. The game is played to raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children and to raise awareness about the expert orthopedic, burn, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and cleft lip and palate care available at no charge to patients and families, through the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children.
