Boise State and Virginia Tech will not be the only showcase game involving a nonautomatic qualifying school to start the 2010 season.
ESPN has confirmed TCU and Oregon State have agreed to play on Sept. 4, at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on the ESPN family of networks. Contracts have been sent to both schools and ESPN is waiting for them to go through each school’s legal counsel and return with signatures.
This game marks the second consecutive season opener between a Mountain West school and a big opponent from an automatic qualifying conference at Dallas Cowboys Stadium. In the 2009 season opener, BYU defeated Oklahoma 14-13 and knocked former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Sam Bradford out for the season. It was one of the more intriguing games of the year because it knocked Oklahoma out of the national championship race and it put BYU in it, albeit for just a couple weeks.
TCU and Oregon State are both expected to start the season in the Top 25 with TCU, which finished the 2009 season 12-1 and loses only six starters from that team, in the top 10.
