Rutgers' signing class was ranked near the bottom of the Big East. But Greg Schiano closed with a flourish.
On Tuesday, Schiano landed highly-regarded defensive back Rashad Knight, who chose the Scarlet Knights over Michigan. Then he reeled in 6-foot-6 receiver Brandon Coleman over several major programs.
The feather in the cap came Tuesday night when Jeremy Deering picked Rutgers over Florida State. Deering is a wide receiver/safety/quarterback who is ranked as the No. 17 athlete in the class by Scouts Inc. He is expected to begin his career at safety, like Knight.
The late three commitments also fill big needs for Rutgers, which needs playmakers at wide receiver for quarterback Tom Savage and needs replacements in the defensive backfield.
